Getting into that SPF || AlumierMD

As someone who never considered sun damage until the past few years, it’s taken me a while to really get into the groove of applying sunscreen everyday. After seeing what sunscreen can do to my skin (ie. minimize breakouts, save me from my sunburns…), I think it’s safe to say, I’m pretty committed to protecting my skin at all costs.

AlumierMD Mineral-Based Sunscreens

At my current age, I think it’s not too late to get into protecting your skin, I actually think I should’ve started a lot sooner but, better late than never! Walking into my life are two mineral-based sunscreens that won’t leave white-cast or white, chalky residue from AlumierMD. I was always hesitant to try mineral-based sunscreens since they were usually a lot thicker and left a white residue on my face but this was a game changer.

Here’s a little information about the brand, focused on helping others achieve perfect skin while protecting it, a team of scientists and physicians worked together to create the perfect formulation to achieve the best of both worlds.

AlumierMD Clear Shield & Sheer Hydration Sunscreens

Two of the sunscreens that I’ve been testing out are the Clear Shield Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 42, and the untinted Sheer Hydration Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 40. They both come in 60 mL tubes (perfect for travelling) and retail for $48 each.

The directions on the box are pretty standard sunscreen application directions, apply generously and evenly 15 minutes before sun exposure…reapply at least every 2 hours, that sort of thing.

1. Clear Shield Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 42

The Clear Shield sunscreen is an oil free sunscreen lotion that comes in a 60 mL tube. Upon opening the rose gold coloured cardboard box it came in, the tube was actually security sealed which, I really liked to see. I prefer my products to come security sealed so I know there has been no exposure to air (reducing its shelf life) or that no one has opened it up and tested it out for themselves before putting it back in the box and back on the shelf.

The active ingredients in the sunscreen are Titanium Dioxide 7% and Zinc Oxide 6.18%. (For a full list of ingredients, you can find them here)

Upon application, I definitely shook the tube a bit to make sure it wouldn’t be super runny as I didn’t know how the consistency of the product would be. I wouldn’t say its super thick nor runny, it’s an inbetween. The sunscreen is a pale pink/cream colour and feels super lightweight. It has close to no scent, it’s barely noticeable but I feel like it has a hint of a floral scent to it. It’s very thin, so a little definitely goes a long way with this sunscreen. While it is an oil-free sunscreen, you do end up with a slight shimmer/dewy look on the skin, so if that’s not what you’re into then you can always just apply a powder on top to mattify it, like I’ve been doing.

AlumierMD Sheer Hydration Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 40 (Untinted)

2. Sheer Hydration Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 40 (Untinted)

The Sheer Hydration sunscreen is a moisturizing sunscreen lotion that comes in a 60 mL tube, although a 120 mL tube is also available. Same for this tube, it came with a security seal on it to protect it from being opened and used. The colour of the sunscreen is the same pale pink/cream colour.

The active ingredients in the Sheer Hydration are Titanium Dioxide 7% and Zinc Oxide 6.28% (0.1% more than the Clear Shield) (For the full ingredients list, you can find it here)

The feel of this sunscreen is similar to that of the Clear Shield. I found this one to have less of a scent compared to the other sunscreen. It has a lightweight feel and not even a dime-size of the sunscreen already covers a significant amount of skin. This one felt a little more hydrating compared to the Clear Shield.

AlumierMD Sheer Hydration & Clear Shield Sunscreens

While both sunscreens had a similar feel for me, I love that AlumierMD produced a few different ones for different skin concerns. While the Clear Shield targets sensitive, acne-prone skin, the Sheer Hydration is good for all skin types with extra hydrating factors. Both sunscreens work well into my lifestyle, I find myself alternating between one another depending on how my skin’s feeling that day.

AlumierMD is currently only available medical spas, doctor’s offices and online at

Have you tried any mineral-based sunscreens that you’ve really enjoyed using?
