Instant Look in a Palette: Smokey Eye Beauty || Charlotte Tilbury

Back in January 2017, I picked up the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette in the shade ‘Seductive Beauty’ when it first launched (you can read about it, here) after regretting not picking up the original ‘Natural Beauty’ palette. I instantly fell in love with the formulation of the powder and how easy they were to work with and to blend. Since then, Charlotte Tilbury has launched the ‘Beauty Glow’ Instant Look in a Palette, I have yet to pick that one up, however, I did pick up the ‘Smokey Eye Beauty’ one when it launched exclusively on Beautylish.

Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette in ‘Smokey Eye Beauty,’ $85 CAD/$75 USD (

Just like the other Instant Look in a Palette products in the range, it consists of 3 eyeshadow shades that can all be used individually or all together, a bronzer, two blushes (a swish & a pop shade), and a highlighter. The palettes retail for $75 USD/$85 CAD at both Beautylish and Charlotte Tilbury. The ‘Smoke Eye Beauty’ is exclusive to Beautylish.

The eyeshadow shades all individually contribute to a full eye look, as individuals, they are separated by a brightening, an enhance and a smoke shade. The bronzer contributes to a sun-kissed appearance and to contour and chisel out the cheekbones and jawline. The swirl and pop blushes vary by one providing the radiance and the other adding that extra bright and uplifting flush. The highlighter helps enhance and brighten the cheekbones, brow bones and bridge of the nose.

In the ‘Smokey Eye Beauty’ palette, the highlighter is the cult-favourite Bar of Gold highlighter. I own the highlighter on its own, and I think its safe to say this is one of the most finely milled and pigmented highlighters that I own. With even the softest touch of the product, I’ve got this gorgeous highlight on the skin.

Instant Look In A Palette in ‘Smokey Eye Beauty’ Eye Swatches (L-R): 1. Brighten, 2. Enhance, 3. Smoke

Diving right into the palette itself, we have the brighten, enhance, and smoke shade categories that comes in all Charlotte Tilbury’s Instant Look palettes. The shadows themselves were very easy to swatch and provided a lot of pigmentation. What I really like about this palette is that it includes a matte charcoal black shade, I can use this as a smudged out liner since I’m horrible at liner, the smudged look is the way to go for me. The brighten and enhance shades vary quite a bit from the smoke shade which, I really like as it allows for more variation and mixing around. I can also see myself using the enhance shade as a contour on the cheekbones and nose if need be.

Instant Look In A Palette in ‘Smokey Eye Beauty’ Face and Cheek Swatches (L-R): 4. Natural Sun-Kissed Bronze, 5. Cheek Swish, 6. Cheek Pop, 7. Bar of Gold Highlighter

Onto the face part of the palette, I think the bronzer in this palette may suit my complexion better, it’s a lot lighter and can definitely be built upon. I found the bronzer in the ‘Seductive Beauty’ palette to have a little bit of shimmer and a little orange for my liking. The blushes are also not as vibrant or bright as the ones within the other palette that I own, I like blushes that are less obvious and more natural looking, so this is definitely a plus for me. The only issue I have with the face part of the palette is the highlighter. As stated earlier, the highlighter within this palette is the famed Bar of Gold highlighter.

Bar of Gold Comparison swatch (L-R): Palette highlighter & Bar of Gold Individual

I had mentioned that my Bar of Gold highlighter was super pigmented and could be seen with even the slightest touch of the product. However, I didn’t find that to be the case with the highlighter in the palette. I found the highlighter from the palette a lot harder to swatch and to have pigmentation show up unlike my individual highlighter. While it did seem to be around as finely milled as the individual product, I didn’t find it to be as soft as the individual.

All in all, I do think these palettes are worth it, they’re definitely really useful when travelling or being on the go. The generously sized mirror and the inclusion of face, cheek and eye products really make it worth it. I would for sure pick up the other palettes within this collection that Charlotte Tilbury produces.

Have you picked this up? What are your favourite Charlotte Tilbury products?
