I’d be lying if I said I was a big fan of Winter. Once it starts getting cold, you’ll find me all bundled up and ready to hibernate at home. I was recently given the opportunity to pick up any item from Soia & Kyo with a $100 credit as part of the ChickAdvisor Product Review Club. With the credit, I settled on picking up the Darnelle classic down coat.
Prior to being a part of this opportunity, I had purchased my winter coat from Soia & Kyo last year and loved it. I had purchased the Camelia coat which is a longer, knee-length down coat (I’m 5’4″ for reference, so take that length as you will). Being a part of this opportunity, I decided that I’d like a shorter winter coat and settled on the Darnelle.
One thing I love about the Soia & Kyo coats are how big their hoods are. I could literally fit a puppy or kitten along with my head in these hoods! A great thing about the Darnelle is that it’s water-repellent and has a low-hip design. The length of the coat falls just below my butt, allowing me to keep my bottom warm during the colder months while permitting more movement than a knee-length coat would allow.
I settled for the Indigo shade as a lot of my clothes are black, so it’d give a nice contrast and is a little more special than the classic black.
I took the coat on a hike this past weekend in 3 degree Celsius weather with light showers. It did a great job in keeping me warm and dry with just a crewneck sweater on. The slim fit really helped with ensuring that I wasn’t in anyone’s way and really made me feel like a warm burrito. (Just the way I like it)
Visiting the Soia & Kyo retail location at Square One was a really great time. The staff were super friendly and knew their products. They also helped suggest different styles for me to try on and were really attentive to what I was looking for. On top of that, their bags come with ribbons for you to tie a bow and their coats come with a coat bag! (Super fancy and cool!)
I’d definitely recommend checking out Soia & Kyo if you’re on the hunt for a new winter coat. They’ve got a great variety and assortment of styles to choose from! They can also be found at many retailers throughout the city.

I got the size XS, I usually fluctuate between 110-115 and I’m still able to wear a sweater under this. I have a size S in the Camille and it definitely still has room even with a sweater underneath
